The states are the primary holder of unclaimed property, funds and money. Each state has an office dedicated to the collection and matching of funds they hold with rightful owners. As seen by the sites listed on the sidebar here some states offer more information on their sites than others. In general states collect more money than they reunite on an annual basis. For instance New York took in about $400 million last year and gave back $218. So in looking from both points of view, the states make money on the collection and the subsequent interest for the money they hold - and property owners who initiate a search often ( about 1 in 7 varies according to state) find lost funds. Currently New York holds close to $10 billion in unclaimed funds. Most states hold funds totaling much less than N.Y.
UnclaimedMoney.org now offers you a direct link to your state in the left menu that now appears on your screen. Our link is free - it would be great if you told others about us - and don't forget to return as we update this site with more information on unclaimed property/funds in the days and weeks ahead. Good Luck with your search!
Please note UnclaimedMoney.org tries to keep up with the most current information and links on unclaimed property. However, our primary mission is to provide, our visitors at best only a sense of unclaimed property services offered by a given state. To definitively determine whether or not you have unclaimed money you must visit your state's website and or contact their office directly. NOTE BECAUSE AN ONLINE SEARCH SHOWS NO FUNDS DOES NOT NECSSARILY MEAN YOU HAVE NO UNCLAIMED PROPERTY. ONLINE SEARCH DATA BASES ARE NOT NECESSARILY THE MOST CURRENT. TAKE NOTE YOU CAN CONTACT YOUR STATE DIRECTLY BY PHONE OR MAIL TO ASK THEM TO CONDUCT A SEARCHON YOUR BEHALF.
